Walpole

Towering forests and white sandy beaches make Walpole an idyllic place for a relaxing getaway.

Surrounded by national parks and state forests, the tranquil rivers and inlet offers world-class fishing, canoeing, white-water rafting, bushwalking, power boating and sailing.

Just an hour-and-a-half west of Albany on the southern coast, Walpole is a well-placed base to explore the region.

Established in 1930’s as a group settlement for farmers, the town sits on the magnificent Walpole Inlet that flows into the Southern Ocean – where you can go for an exhilarating four-wheel drive along the sandy beach.

Don’t miss the 400 year old red and yellow tingle trees at the Valley of the Giants Tree Top Walk and the Ancient Empire grove.

Explore the forest on Hilltop Road and stroll along the trail to the Giant Red Tingle Tree, rising 70 metres from the ground.

Take time to paddle the rivers in a canoe, try a spot of fishing, or pack a picnic and enjoy the beautiful scenery.

An incredible photo stop is Circular Pool, in the Frankland River. Water rushes over granite rocks at a bend in the river to form a large dramatic swirling whirlpool.

Spot the Norwegian wreck site from the Mandalay beach, take in views of Chatham Island and read extracts from the Captain’s log to find out how the crew survived.
Bird life is plentiful, watch out for wrens, sea eagles, pelicans and scarlet western rosellas.

Hop on the daily inlet cruise, take in the sights and smells at the herb farm or go for a scenic drive.

Walk to the lookout at the top of Mt. Frankland for 360-degree views or trek a portion of the Bibbulmun Track which winds through the region.

For accommodation try a luxury chalet, retreat, Bed and Breakfast, motel, or campsite.
